Your online watercooler for relationship building

Posted by Shoshana

Good news everyone!  I’m finally starting to get my energy back.  After a crazy 2013, and a slow start to 2014, things are looking up!  Look out for new ideas and positive energy for building audiences soon!

In the meantime, I wanted to leave you this week with a fun idea to think about.  Many of us do not have an office, and sometimes people are so busy at the office, they don’t have a chance to connect with people beyond their work.  This means that many of us do not have a physical watercooler, a time and place to converse with people and chat about our thoughts, our day to day lives and recent discoveries.  Why not have an online watercooler?

An online watercooler is a place online where you can converse with people, get to know them, and build relationships.  This can be any of the social media outlets, especially the ones that are open to conversations.    For example, my online watercooler of choice is Twitter.  I have had some fantastic chats and conversations, and I have built relationships to the point where I get to the next step of meeting them in person.  These people, over the course of 5 years, have become very special to me.

Whenever I need a quick break, I head to my watercooler – I check out what is happening on Twitter and see if there is a conversation I can join or a topic I can tweet about that could start one.

As I mentioned in the past, getting to know people beyond business is a better way to build relationships.  It is truly the authentic daily conversations that make a difference.

Do you have an online watercooler?  Do tell!

Cheers to happy and loyal audiences,
Shoshana
