Do something unexpected!

Posted by Shoshana

Quick post today.  What is catching my attention these days is when an artist or organization does something unexpected.  It gets the attention of the press and equally attracts attention to stand out from the crowd of typical news.

How do you do something unexpected?  It still needs to align with your mission, yet you can expand by:

  • Collaborating with another entity that is outside of your typicaal realm.
  • Adding a program that at first doesn’t make sense (so it seems).
  • Trying out a new technology that seems beyond what you had been capable of before.
  • Standing for something new and different such as helping a different type of social cause you haven’t worked with before.
  • Dressing differently.
  • Performing at an “odd” venue.
  • Allowing the audience to come up with the latest brain child (relinquishing some control).
  • Crowdsourcing the art.
  • New forms of fun for the audiences – self-guided tours, geocaching, etc. There’s an app for it!
  • Pop-up Arts, Flash Mobs, yet now needing to be more creative than before.
  • Impeccable, going the extra mile customer service!
  • Creating hands-on educational programs if you don’t do this already.
  • Coming up with solutions for your community.
  • Working with a particular sponsor on a community program.
  • Your idea here ___________.  Please feel free to share in the Disqus box below.

So, do something unexpected!  You’ll attract some attention too.

Cheers to happy and loyal audiences,
Shoshana

PS  My friend and colleague, Drew McManus, is continuing with the Giving Program I had set-up back in September 2013.  I have been amiss in posting my recent gives.  Rest assured I am still giving in different ways and will have an update for you in March.  I hope you will join us in this free to give program.
