Attention spans are in the eye of the beholder?

Yesterday, I posted a guest post about taking into account your audiences’ time. This post was all about creating a shorter door to door time to re-introduce the arts back into people’s lives.

Today, I found an article about Binge-Watching Theatre. The first thing I did was do a double take to make sure it was an experience that was in the United States and not the UK. The article was from Chicago. Secondly, I read the article to find out why it was similar to binge-watching a television series. These events are an all day, 12-hour adventure. They state that they are not guaranteeing that our short attention spans have changed, but they will attempt to keep the audiences’ attention the entire time, like the television shows.

So, perhaps attention spans are in the eye of the beholder. If the subject matter is interesting and keeps our attention, people have been known to binge-watch, hours on end.

The point is, we have to keep it really good to warrant a lengthy time frame. Quality is the main ingredient.

Have you binge-watched before? What is your all time record?

My latest was binge-watching Sherlock when I was snowed in for 8 hours.

Cheers to happy and loyal audiences,
Shoshana

Testimonials

Arizona Women’s Theatre Company (AZWTC)

“I loved the sessions and as I was taking them for my newly elected position, I felt I needed some close mentoring and strict goal setting..She absolutely did listen to our needs and tailored her sessions to fit our little situation. I have bragged about the sessions to other admins in our areas. Some of the instructions were familiar as I had followed her ideas for some time. Most are obtainable over time and will be implemented this coming year as we finish our season. My time with Shoshana at ADS, I would rate it First Class!” —Joy Bingham Strimple, Board President
