A friendly reminder to get the name right

If you have been following my blog for a while, you will know I am a big advocate for getting the name right. I post this tip from time to time, and it is included in my Top 20 Tips for Increasing Everything webinar/workshop.

I am writing about this again because there are people (despite my asking to spell my name correctly) that have not cared enough to get the name right.

Getting the name wrong acts like a filter!

If someone spells your name wrong, you notice it right away. If the person or organization continues to misspell your name, it is a red flag that they don’t care about you. Really. Or, they would take care to get your name right.

With a name like mine, spelling my name wrong at first is typical, but after I have pointed it out and asked someone to spell it correctly, and they continue to get it wrong, I do not want to associate with someone that is so care-less.

Getting the name wrong costs you:

  • Connections
  • Purchases
  • Donations
  • Volunteers
  • Wasted Marketing Dollars

And, when someone gets your name right, you notice this too. Maybe not on the same level as noticing the mistake, but subconsciously we know that the person and/or organization took the time to get our name right.  In my case, I notice it consciously since it really does separate out the caring from the care-less.

If you really want to increase your audiences and overall support, try this one tip. Please! I’m begging you. Get the name right!

Cheers to happy and loyal audiences,
Shoshana

Testimonials

Arizona Women’s Theatre Company (AZWTC)

“I loved the sessions and as I was taking them for my newly elected position, I felt I needed some close mentoring and strict goal setting..She absolutely did listen to our needs and tailored her sessions to fit our little situation. I have bragged about the sessions to other admins in our areas. Some of the instructions were familiar as I had followed her ideas for some time. Most are obtainable over time and will be implemented this coming year as we finish our season. My time with Shoshana at ADS, I would rate it First Class!” —Joy Bingham Strimple, Board President
