How to make a viral video

Posted by Shoshana

Once in a while I happen to catch the Steve Harvey show. Today, he was discussing viral videos with people that have become famous using YouTube.

I kid you not, this video is one of the most viral!

The panel Steve Harvey assembled talked about what makes a video viral. Here were some of their thoughts:

  • Pick something you are passionate about. One of the panelists was into epic meals, and he created the Epic Meal Time YouTube channel with great results.
  • Take advantage of celebrity moments in life when you can. You never know when you meet one of your faves, and maybe they will be okay being on your video. All you can do is ask.
  • If you are doing a parody, use titles of what you are spoofing so when people search for the original, your video pops up as well.
  • Interact with people when they comment. It may help them decide to share again.
  • Share interesting news that people will share in kind. News about new products, life hacks, etc. do get shared.
  • Video capture amazing people doing amazing things. For example, if you know a talented kid, there is a good chance the video will be noticed and shared.
  • Elicit emotions. If it is a real moment that makes people laugh, cry, etc., they are more likely to share. Steve shared the example of the Chewbacca Mom.
  • Figure out the best time to post, especially if you are attempting to make money off of the video. Leading to Christmas time is more lucrative than posting in January.
  • Irony is your friend. The unexpected captured on video will be more likely shared.

I wanted to also mention that the above video was not a razzle dazzle production. You do not need tons of money to create a viral video. You just have to put a little thought into it, do it and put it out there!

Cheers to happy and loyal audiences,
Shoshana

Testimonials

Arizona Women’s Theatre Company (AZWTC)

“I loved the sessions and as I was taking them for my newly elected position, I felt I needed some close mentoring and strict goal setting..She absolutely did listen to our needs and tailored her sessions to fit our little situation. I have bragged about the sessions to other admins in our areas. Some of the instructions were familiar as I had followed her ideas for some time. Most are obtainable over time and will be implemented this coming year as we finish our season. My time with Shoshana at ADS, I would rate it First Class!” —Joy Bingham Strimple, Board President
