Our People

Shoshana Fanizza has been in arts management for over 10 years and has worked with non-profits for over 15 years. She has been involved in the arts all her life (horn, piano, Thespian, choir, voice and dance lessons, puppets, art and jazz history classes) and has a background in marketing, sales, public relations, and customer service. Shoshana is the founder of Audience Development Specialists and is the main audience development consultant. After attending several arts marketing conferences, seminars and workshops, and being a part of the Boulder County Arts Alliance's 2006 Audience Development Initiative, it has come to her attention that several experts define audience development, but do not show how to apply the idea of audience development.

From 2005-2007, she was the Marketing and PR Director for the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra. During her tenure, Shoshana was the first marketing associate in seven years to sell out Macky Auditorium's 2,000+ seat house. She also increased house totals by an average of 25-30% per concert, developed their volunteer incentive program, expanded the marketing and publicity program from 4 outlets to close to 30 outlets, and was a primary team member in their fundraising special events and campaigns. Some of her other positions have included Founder of the Celebration Brass Quintet in Chicago and Marketing Director of the Chicago Brass Choir. Some of her clients have included: Colorado Music Festival, Colorado Shakespeare Festival, Boulder Ballet, Boulder County Arts Alliance, The Shoot Out Boulder, Helander Dance Theater, Color & Light Galleria, Iman Woods Creative, and Rosh (local musician).

Matthew Wilburn, Ph.D. is ADS' Grant Writer. Matthew's work is primarily about personal expression, experimentation, understanding, and giving. Art provides a means for him to tap into aspects of himself, unknown. Probing life’s questions, Matthew is motivated by the desire to share and connect with the aesthetic and emotional realms of experience, while actively promoting the societal benefits of the arts and philanthropy.  Through participation in the arts and philanthropic communities, Matthew principally seeks to raise awareness about environmental, philosophical, and political questions that aren’t often as accessible to the general public. He seeks to support and open avenues of communication between the subject and the object of inquiry. He offers support for the arts by writing grant proposals, providing consultative advice, business planning, and implementing innovative programs.

More recently, Matthew has shifted his attention toward using the arts as a means to explore the relationship between people and the natural world. The diversity of expression in the natural world is an incredible means to access the aesthetic in the arts. When combined, both the arts and the environment provide an awesome means to access a deeper part of ourselves, culturally and naturally.

Matthew works on a fee-for-service basis in partnership with Audience Development Specialists. He particularly enjoys working with organizations and institutions to negotiate contracts, interact with agents to secure artists and speakers, and write grants for audience development, philanthropic events, special events, and lecture programs or series.

Iman Woods is ADS' Portrait Photographer. Iman Woods’ mission is to create an experience through imagery. There are many stories to be told in one image. In a successful portrait the viewer gets a sense of who the subject is and what is special about them. Through expressive photographs she captures the essence of a person in a medium that can be enjoyed for generations. She is constantly learning and experimenting to create an innovative combination of both digital and traditional art mediums. While working with a beauty salon she created an interactive art experience by taking abstract 3 dimensional images of various stages of the styling process. These images were hung to cover the store window and when viewed with traditional 3-D glasses the images would leap out at the viewer. She enjoys working with non-profits from animal shelters to cancer centers helping give much needed portraits to those that would not be able to afford or even think about professional portraits. At the foundation of her work lies the belief that there is beauty in everything and everyone. Some of the most moving images are of something seemingly mundane that is transformed into something else entirely through the creative process. Woods currently resides in Erie, CO and is available for private commissions, commercial work, and public speaking about empowering women through photography.
